Homeopathy for Childbirth

Several Homeopathic pharmacies sell excellent childbirth kits, and many Midwives, these days are familiar with woman stating they wish to use homeopathic remedies in their birth plan.

Unfortunately, in my experience many woman don’t actually get around to opening it their kits, or reading the instructions, until they go into labour and this is far too late!

This is one case where a little preparation ahead of time will make all the difference, so unless you are in the direct care of a Homeopath, it’s best to purchase your childbirth kit, well in advance, and spend some time becoming familiar with remedies and when they might be needed.

One of the most wonderful and yet misused remedies for women giving birth, is Caulophyllum. This remedy should not be taken routinely if it is not really needed.

If you have had a previous history of a prolonged labour with ineffectual labour pains, then your Homeopath will be able to advise you on the best time to take this remedy It's also well worth keeping this remedy to hand in the delivery room to help co-ordinate and strengthen the action of the uterine muscles, if your labour becomes slow to progress.

All women giving birth, will benefit from Arnica to ease bruising, even after a caesarean section. Arnica 30c is readily available from most high street pharmacies, but if you have a birth kit, then it’s better to use the 200c potency for the first few doses, reducing to a dose of 30c daily as the bruising diminishes, until it is no longer needed.

Some women need an episiotomy, or other form of invasive procedure during labour. If this happens and results in strong feelings of ‘resentment’ then the remedy Staphysagria can prove invaluable in easing the psychological impact of these events.

If you are going to have a breech birth, then your Homeopath will be able to discuss constitutional treatment with you to encourage your baby to turn into a head down position.

These are just a few of the many valuable remedies that can ease the childbirth process. As always my advice is to consult with a Registered Homeopath, experienced in maternity care, before you go into labour, so that you can get the best from your birth kit.

Consultations

At present I am unable to offer personal consultations but would be very happy to help you find a Homeopath who can be of help.
